A chiseled alpaca rim and bronze-footed mate are built to last a lifetime, growing more beautiful and rich in character with every single pour. To keep your "Valseado" set in perfect condition for the journeys ahead, treat it with these simple care steps:

The Curing Ritual: Before your very first session, fill the gourd with used, damp yerba and warm water, letting it rest for 24 hours. Afterwards, gently scrape the inner walls with a spoon to remove any loose natural fibers. Then, it's ready for the field.

Keep Soap Far Away: After you finish your ritual, empty the yerba and rinse the gourd thoroughly with warm water only. Never use dish soap, detergents, or abrasive sponges. The natural gourd is porous and will absorb chemicals, altering the flavor of your future pours.

Drying is Key: Always allow your mate to air-dry completely face up (or slightly tilted) in a well-ventilated, dry spot. Never leave damp yerba inside for days, as natural gourds can develop mold if left wet in enclosed spaces.

Mind the Rawhide and Metals: Premium raw rawhide, alpaca, and bronze accents are noble but hate being drowned. While a few accidental splashes are part of the ritual, avoid soaking or submerging the body under the tap. If a spill happens, simply pat it dry with a soft cloth immediately.

Bombilla Maintenance: Whether you stick with the classic stainless steel Limay or upgrade to one of our premium Alpaca models, maintenance is simple. Rinse it under warm water after use, and occasionally run a thin pipe brush through it to keep your connection to home flowing perfectly clean.
